Unipart Automotive launches consumer campaigns to support independent garages with BSI Kitemark

29th September 2006

Unipart Automotive, in partnership with a number of its kitemarked Unipart Car Care Centres, is running a series of consumer campaigns aimed at the public to raise awareness of the benefits of the BSI automotive Kitemark among motorists and to increase its support for independent garages to achieve the BSI kitemark.

The consumer campaigns, which are being launched to coincide with a series of six roadshows for UCCC's starting in October, include bus, radio and newspaper advertising in nine towns across England - Redditch, Ashford, Basildon, Portsmouth, Penryn, Taunton, Worthing, Birkenhead and Chelmsford.

At the roadshows, Unipart Automotive will outline the key milestones for garages to get kitemarked ahead of the NCC deadline in September 2007 with attendance from the NCC's senior policy advocate Steve Brooker, who will comment on the importance of the Kitemark designed to raise workshop standards.

Within its garage support programme Unipart Automotive is helping its network of UCCCs to get kitemarked by offering financial support to fund the necessary investments in training, a technical support line, a UCCC members’ website and an awareness programme so motorists can easily locate a local UCCC.

With the threatened National Consumer Council's (NCC) super-complaint against the service and repair sector one year away, the campaigns are designed to build awareness and confidence about the benefits of the BSI automotive Kitemark among motorists.

Unipart Automotive marketing director, Andrew Daly, said: "The vehicle servicing and repair industry is under serious threat of Government enforced legislation and garage owners must understand what it could mean in the future if nothing is done. We are launching the consumer campaigns to provide motorists with a confidence boost that will allow them to recognise value-for-money garages."
