Torvec heavy duty IVT transmission ‘approaches commercialisation’

28th July 2006

Torvec, Inc., the US developer of variable transmission systems, says it has successfully installed its modular, infinitely variable transmission in its 2004, diesel-fuelled Dodge Ram 4x4, and has begun testing an IVT system in school buses in a programme designed to compare the fuel efficiencies and pollution reduction capabilities of its IVT versus the fuel consumption and pollution generated by New York's and the nation's school buses.

The comparisons are being made based upon actual school bus routes provided by US local school districts actively cooperating with Torvec on the project.

Torvec’s system is designed for heavy-duty, high-torque applications, and it is optimistic that an impending increase in demand for diesel light trucks in the US will help its cause.
