Audi wins ‘Battle of the Diesels’ at Le Mans

20th June 2007

A diesel powered Audi R10 won the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hour race that took place last weekend defeating a factory backed team of diesel engined Peugeot racecars.

The winning car, driven by German drivers Frank Biela and Marco Werner and Italy’s Emmanuele Pirro, was the only one of three R10s entered that completed the race. The other two cars were eliminated in accidents ending the Audi Sport 100% Le Mans finishing record that dates back to 1999.

Peugeot Sport was represented by two 908 TDi FDAP racecars one of which started from pole position on the 54 car starting grid and finished second in the race. The other was withdrawn late in the race due to mechanical problem.
