Green motorsport exhibits at Accelerate Clusters conference

The Accelerate Clusters Summer Conference and Exhibition taking place today at the UK’s Chepstow Racecourse features a number of green motorsport exhibits.
Funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and European Union Objective One, Accelerate Clusters is a business development programme designed to support and develop the automotive sector in Wales by focussing on emerging technologies and niche market opportunities. It has an established membership of more than 180 companies and organisations and playing a pivotal role in shaping the automotive industry of the 21st century and the shift towards an environmentally conscious operation in Wales.
The motorsport exhibits at the event include a solar powered racing car designed and hand built by a Welsh team headed by a Cardiff University lecturer that is due to compete in the 1860 miles Panasonic World Solar Challenge in Australia later this year in which vehicles powered purely by sunlight will race from Darwin to Adelaide; the Nasamax LMP1 racecar which was the first to enter and finish the Le Mans 24 Hour race using renewable fuel- bio ethanol; and the Oaktec Honda Insight hybrid rally car that used bio-ethanol fuel and won its class in the 2006 Formula 1000 Rally Championship.
