Mr Clutch to engage female franchise applicants

17th August 2006

Mr Clutch, the UK autocentre network comprising wholly-owned and franchised outlets, is looking for 'Mrs Clutch', reported Autowired today. Mr Clutch’s founder Joseph Yussuf says that women could play a key role in his plans to open 14 new outlets across the UK.

"We are keen to quash the grease monkey stereotype, similar to what Eastenders is doing with Carly Wicks, and utilise either the mechanical engineering or management expertise that many women possess,” says Mr Yussuf. "We obviously have to take soap life with a huge pinch of salt, but Carly Wicks' character does portray some of the key qualities that can lead to success in the motor trade. Good multi-tasking, people and workload management skills are ideal assets for succeeding as a Mr Clutch franchisee."

He said that in many cases these qualities could help new franchisees to realise an average turnover of up to £350,000 per annum. Mr Clutch Autocentres operate over forty sites providing a wide range of garage services. These include the fitting of clutches, brakes and manual and automatic transmissions. They also carry out full servicing, general repairs and, in some centres, MOT testing.

The company was started twenty-five years ago by brothers, Joseph and Will Yussuf, and began franchising fifteen years ago. During the next five years, their aim is to increase the number of centres to 150, simultaneously taking on more MOT work and targeting fleet contracts.
