AB Volvo to start hybrid truck production in late 2009
11th April 2008
Volvo Trucks plans to start production of trucks with diesel-electric hybrid powertrains from late 2009 at its Ghent assembly plant. The trucks’ electric motors alone will propel them up to a speed of around 12 mph, with regenerative braking recharging their batteries. The Belgian paper L’Echo reported this week that these powertrains will be around 20% more diesel fuel-efficient than pure diesel trucks. Earlier this week Volvo launched trials of two hybrid refuse trucks in Sweden.
