Fisker Automotive announces first European importer

Fisker Automotive, Inc., the US start-up manufacturer of the $80,000 Karma plug-in hybrid-electric 4-seater sports car, has announced Fisker Italia as its first international importer. Franco Pizzuto is the CEO of Fisker Italia, which is described by Fisker as an “elite international importer”. Fisker plans to allocate more than half of its production to overseas sales.
Fisker Automotive says iitial US deliveries of its first car will begin in the 4th quarter of 2009 in North America, with planned deliveries to Europe starting in 2010. Fisker Automotive's annual production is projected to reach15,000 units/year.
Fisker Automotive is a joint venture between Quantum Technologies, the supplier of the Karma’s ‘Q Drive’ plug-in hybrid powertrain system, and the privately-owned Fisker Coachbuild, LLC. Henrik Fisker is a former BMW and Aston Martin designer. The majority of the company’s funding was invested by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Palo Alto Investors.
- Quantum Technologies is also active in hydrogen fuel systems in vehicles (having recently supplied equipment for a fleet of hydrogen-fuelled Prius hybrids for trial in Norway), in hydrogen refueling equipment, and hydrogen storage, on which it is working with Boeing under a $5.6m US Dept. of Energy contract.
