New Coventry production line opened for Modec electric van

Conservative Party leader David Cameron, MP yesterday opened the first new vehicle production line in Coventry for almost 70 years, for Modec, a light commercial vehicle manufacturer, which initially unveiled the vehicle concerned at the CV Show in 2006; the battery-electric Modec urban delivery van has a range of over 100 miles on one overnight charge and reaches a 50 mph limit with a two-tonne payload. Jamie Borwick, Chairman of Modec says the firm expects to produce 500 vehicles this year, and already has orders for over 100 from companies including Tesco and Speedyhire.
