TTxGP officially launched

8th August 2008

TTxGP, the world's first clean emission motorcycle grand prix was launched at a ceremony at the Science Museum in London on Tuesday which was attended by the UK’s Local Government and Environment Minister John Shimmin.

The TTxGP, is planned to take place on the Isle of Man TT circuit during TT race week next year and the launch involved race teams as well as an example of one of the bikes which may be used. Known as the Brammo Motorsport Enertia electric motorcycle, the bike was displayed with the company's technical specialist Ivan Kuzmitz on hand to answer questions.

Also represented was a prospective team from the nearby Kingson University in south west London, whose course director for motorsport and motorcycle engineering Paul Brandon said, “Designing a solution for a course as demanding the Isle of Man TT circuit will increase the impetus to bring cost effective, clean transport technologies to the general public. We are delighted to be involved at this stage and to fully support the initiative.”

Minister Shimmin, who was joined at the event by representatives from the Motorsport Industry Association and the Institute of Engineering and Technology, said, “Combining the world's greatest road racing ciruit with state-of-the-art clean emission technologies brings yet another fantastic first for our nation,”

TTxGP founder Azhar Hussain said, “Although this is a radical departure from conventional racing, the TTxGP is a standalone race and a concept which encapsulates the spirit of the traditional Isle of Man TT. We're about to make history as well as enrich the Isle of Man's racing pedigree.”
