KERS delay rejected

5th November 2008

A report on the website of the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport says that a vote was held at a meeting of Formula One team representatives during last weekend’s F1 Brazilian Grand Prix meeting on a proposal to delay the introduction of Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) which are scheduled to be permitted for use in F1 from 2009 onwards.

AMS says that while there was general agreement with the proposal it was opposed by BMW and since immediate rule changes require a unanimous vote the motion was rejected.

AMS quoted Scuderia Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger as saying, "The veto is a bill of six million Euros for us. We have to buy a system externally".

While Renault team principal Flavio Briatore told the magazine, "We have gone through the same nonsense with the quick shifting gearboxes. Today everyone has one and we are all millions of Euros poorer."
