Johnson Controls-Saft opens world’s first lithium-ion hybrid vehicle battery plant in France

The Johnson Controls-Saft Advanced Power Solutions joint venture has announced the official opening of its new lithium-ion automotive battery manufacturing facility in Nersac, France, yesterday, dedicated to batteries for hybrid, plug-in, fuel cell and electric vehicles and the first of its kind in the world.

Johnson Controls-Saft initially invested €15 million in the facility, which has been built to be scaleable, so that as demand increases it can increase capacity. The joint venture has just one a supply contract with an unnamed European OEM, the second contract so far won by the business.
