Summary

Following its much-acclaimed, inaugural All Routes to Russia conference in Helsinki in May, 360 Media Ltd., publisher of autoMOTIVE and autoMOTIVE outbound magazines, has announced the dates of its Logistics Leaders Congress, to take place at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland on 1-3 September 2008.

The automotive world continues to expand. In spite of adverse economic conditions, more vehicles are being produced in more countries than ever before. As the OEMs’ vehicle manufacturing base proliferates, the production of component parts must inevitably follow. Components are now increasingly being produced in what have become termed as low-cost countries. Both local companies and branches of internationally-known traditional suppliers are springing up in nations previously un-associated with the automotive industry.

The autoMOTIVE Logistics Leaders Congress, hosted and organised by the publisher of autoMOTIVE magazines, will examine the ramifications of such globalisation for the automotive logistics sector. Traditional supply chains, both inbound and outbound, have had to be replaced or augmented by new routes and modes of transportation. In many cases, these new arrangements have substantially lengthened supply chains and thereby increased the exposure to risk. Inventory levels which had been reduced by strict adherence to just-in-time principles have started to rise again as buffer stocks become more essential.

The transportation sector has been stretched to its limits and beyond by the increases in volumes and the distances over which components and vehicles must be moved. Capacity has become a major issue, on road, rail and sea. Ports and terminals, whose function should be to facilitate the smooth inbound and outbound passage of goods, resemble vast vehicle storage areas as they become increasingly congested.

The autoMOTIVE Logistics Leaders Congress will bring together senior figures from across the automotive world. OEMs and logistics service providers will join together to identify issues and discuss potential solutions. Such a gathering of distinguished experts deserves an equally prestigious setting and there are few to rival the Gleneagles Hotel. Set in an 850 acre estate in the heart of a beautiful Scottish glen, it has won fame as one of the world’s leading resorts. The Logistics Leaders Congress will be preceded by a golf tournament when participants will have the opportunity to play the world-famous King’s Course at Gleneagles.

The extensive list of speakers and panelists will include among others :

  • Jan Eyvin Wang, President & CEO, EUKOR Car Carriers
  • Rudolph Luttman, Director of Car & RoRo activities, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines
