The Auto Industry website was originally created in the year 2000 as a project of the Automotive Unit of the Department for Business (BIS).  Thesite offered information and statistics about the industry, later adding a company database and news service.  From an initial target of 1,000 monthly users, the site attracted steadily more traffic and reached a peak of well over 300,000 monthly users in 2007.  We have always published detailed user statistics, available under What's New in the left-hand menu.

Following a change of policy, the Department for Business withdrew its support and the Auto Industry site is now maintained on a voluntary basis. The site offers a large archive of news, press releases and articles that are an invaluable research resource.  News stories, press releases and events continue to be added and we are gradually updating the statistics and UK industry pages.  The site is independent of any manufacturer or industry group and is supported solely by advertising.
